Finishing Up December and some great Thrifty Steals!!

I love this advent wreath

December 20 New person. She came into your life and turned it upside down. He went out of his way to provide incredible customer service. Who is your unsung hero of 2009?

—–> I’m gonna give it up the random black guys with pick-up lines like, “Sexy…sexy” to the tune of that song. I don’t know why they are attracted to me, or what might make them think I’m interested, but I appreciate that they appreciate me.

December 21 Project. What did you start this year that you’re proud of?

—–> I started quilting. I like it and the idea of it. I see more patchwork in my future.

December 22 Startup. What’s a business that you found this year that you love? Who thought it up? What makes it special?

—–> I’m gonna say that I thought up my own business. I thrift shop and find vintage wares, then re-sell them on Etsy. Sometimes I break even, sometimes I make a little extra, but I like that it keeps me busy and thrifting.

December 23 Web tool. It came into your work flow this year and now you couldn’t live without it. It has simplified or improved your online experience.

—–> Web tool? That’s a tough one. There isn’t really a new one, that I didn’t know about before, but I would say that I am a much more consistant blogger these days. Though Win7 has been pretty great!

December 24 Learning experience. What was a lesson you learned this year that changed you?

—–> Appreciation: I’ve learned to appreciate everything that I’ve been blessed with. An amazing husband, a stable home, wonderful kitties, family that loves me, faith, my cooking skills, etc…

December 25 Gift. What’s a gift you gave yourself this year that has kept on giving?

—–> probably my quilting class. It really stirred something in me.

December 26 Insight or aha! moment. What was your epiphany of the year?

—–> Adam actually helped me come to the realization that I am relentless in most things I do. Everything is balls to the wall and full effort.

December 27 Social web moment. Did you meet someone you used to only know from her blog? Did you discover Twitter?

—–> Um, I started following someones blog because she posted one of my pics. That’s about it.

December 28 Stationery. When you touch the paper, your heart melts. The ink flows from the pen. What was your stationery find of the year?

—–> Oh man, I found these cute cards at St. Vinny’s. I also found these flocked Christmas cards at a house sale.

December 29 Laugh. What was your biggest belly laugh of the year?

—–> The one I can remember is when I thought up a clever “joke” on Adam. I thought (still think) that sprinkling jumping jacks on his side of the bed for him to “discover” when he gets up in the middle of the night would be hilarious πŸ™‚

December 30 Ad. What advertisement made you think this year?

—–>eTrade: I love those darn babies talking to the computer; “it was on the cart path! Why don’t you try reading the rules sometime you shankapotumus.”

“β™« take, these broken wingsβ™« — stop that, it’s not the time– β™« and learn to fly again β™«”

December 31 Resolution you wish you’d stuck with. (You know, there’s always next year…)

—–> Probably the whole losing weight thing, like every year.

Now that I’ve finished that a little early there are some other things to be updated.

First off, these are the cute pencil rolls I made for my cousins for Christmas. I have wanted to make them for awhile, and over all there are a couple things I’d note. I would have made the sections thinner, but lesson learned.

Here are some steals I came across this past week….

Beautiful Pyrex Butterfly Gold Casserole’s

Click the pictures to buy in my Etsy Shop!

These beautiful new Pyrex cups. We are doing a tea party in May and these might be the perfect cups for it.

Some Christmas Steals that I’ve gotten are here… The cow has a broker ear, but I still like it, the house that could hold candles or cards I receive, I’m thinking those little pipe cleaner/bottle brush trees are gonna be a new collection :),

AND my best favorites steals that I just picked up today?!?!?! I’m seriously stoked. First up: This Calphalon Stainless Steel Saute pan with lid. Retails for $170, no joke folks. I said one hundred and seventy dollars.

Guess how much I picked it up for?! Okay, you’ll never guess. It was $12.99!! That’s like a 92% discount. Holy Moly!!

Next steal is this super awesome fondue pot. This Bodum 15 piece stainless steel fondue pot retails for $89.99

And what did I get this practically brand new steal for?! $7.99 people. That’s a whopping 91% discount. Man, can I seek the steals or what?!

Dec 9th through 19th :)

December 9 Challenge. Something that really made you grow this year. That made you go to your edge and then some. What made it the best challenge of the year for you?

—–> I would say my women’s group has pushed me to new boundaries. Initially, I was very apprehensive about the whole thing, and what was going to be asked of me and the type of time I was commiting. Now, though, I’ve made some amazing friends and felt like I truely have contributed to my faith community.

December 10 Album of the year. What’s rocking your world?

—–> Of goodness. Am I allowed to say Mariah Carey Christmas Album? Cause it rocks my world every year. I’m also really liking Jeremy Larson right now and Adele and JJ Heller.

December 11 The best place. A coffee shop? A pub? A retreat center? A cubicle? A nook?

—–>St. Vincent dePaul. Or any thrift store for that matter. I love to wonder about the things that end up their, and where they have been. I love discovering new treasures πŸ™‚

December 12 New food. You’re now in love with Lebanese food and you didn’t even know what it was in January of this year.

—–> I’ve tried India food before, but until this year, I never really had a craving for it. I crave it at least once a month now. Oh, I’m also liking trying out a lot of new foods like roasted carrots and avocado.

December 13 What’s the best change you made to the place you live?

—–> I would say new carpet, cause I’m SO thankful that the aweful disgusting green is gone!

December 14 Rush. When did you get your best rush of the year?

—–> I was confused by what rush was intended to mean. I would have to say that planning Adam’s birthday was a fantastic rush. So exciting, every day of it and I absolutely loved that I could share that moment with him.

December 15 Best packaging. Did your headphones come in a sweet case? See a bottle of tea in another country that stood off the shelves?

—–> these pills.

http://www.helpineedhelp.com/store/

December 16 Tea of the year. I can taste my favorite tea right now. What’s yours?

—–> Umm, I’m gonna go with a brand. Mighty Leaf. I’ve only discovered it this year and love it.

December 17 Word or phrase. A word that encapsulates your year. “2009 was _____.”

—–> besonders schon – amazing and wonderful all at the same time. There were definitely tough parts, but for the most part I am amazingly fortunate. Just the other day I was sitting on the couch with my husband realizing that it’s still hard for me to equate that we’ve been married for 2 years already and in love with each other as we were five years ago. He’s my sunshine.

December 18 Shop. Online or offline, where did you spend most of your mad money this year?

—–> Definitely offline and definitely at rummage/yard sales and thrift shops. I love second hand and old πŸ™‚

December 19 Car ride. What did you see? How did it smell? Did you eat anything as you drove there? Who were you with?

—–> Driving along Meridian going into Indiannapolis, Indiana. The homes were so amazing, I couldn’t stop gawking and taking photos of them. AMAZING!!

I thought I would also throw in a couple photos from our gingerbread making πŸ™‚

My cute front door

a more complete photo of my house πŸ™‚

Adam's house in progress....

My prized salmon ornament. I bought this puppy last year after Christmas on clearance. He's (she?) quickly becoming my favorite.

Squirrely Squirrelson is a close second.

December 11th

December 11 The best place. A coffee shop? A pub? A retreat center? A cubicle? A nook?

—–>St. Vincent dePaul. Or any thrift store for that matter. I love to wonder about the things that end up their, and where they have been. I love discovering new treasures πŸ™‚ I would love to find a local coffee shop to hang out at though…

Dec 9th & 10th

December 9 Challenge. Something that really made you grow this year. That made you go to your edge and then some. What made it the best challenge of the year for you?

—–> I would say my women’s group has pushed me to new boundaries. Initially, I was very apprehensive about the whole thing, and what was going to be asked of me and the type of time I was commiting. Now, though, I’ve made some amazing friends and felt like I truely have contributed to my faith community.

December 10 Album of the year. What’s rocking your world?

—–> Oh goodness. Am I allowed to say Mariah Carey Christmas Album? Cause it rocks my world every year. I’m also really liking Jeremy Larson right now and Adele and JJ Heller. Other than that I rarely buy a full CD. The last full Album I got was the Black Eyed Peas (and Becky it sorta disappointed me 😦 )

Dec. 7th & 8th

December 7 Blog find of the year. That gem of a blog you can’t believe you didn’t know about until this year.

—–> There are so many that I frequent. I’ve rediscovered Elsie F.’s blog and am truely inspried by the creativity. I’ve discovered a lot of sewing blogs thi year and am constantly inspried to try new things from all those gals.

December 8 Moment of peace. An hour or a day or a week of solitude. What was the quality of your breath? The state of your mind? How did you get there?

—–> I went outside to clean out my flower bed for the fall. It was a tad chilly, but bearable and amazingly, it wasn’t raining. So, when I had about ten minutes left it started to lightly rain. I remember being completely calmed. It was around 3:30pm on a weekday, and when I was finished gardening, I sat up on my porch, reading a catalog, in th rain. It just felt good, and cleansing.

The #best09 Prompts

December 1 Trip. What was your best trip in 2009? Hand’s down our trip to Indiana/Illinois. It was amazing and amazingly fun!!

December 2 Share the best restaurant experience you had this year. Who was there? What made it amazing? What taste stands out in your mind?

—–> Probably Bubba Gump while we were in Chicago, just a fun atmosphere and good food πŸ™‚

December 3 What’s an article that you read that blew you away? That you shared with all your friends. That you Delicious’d and reference throughout the year.

—–> I’m not a huge article reader, though if you count blogs there are too many to read…It’s great getting to know people through their blogs.

December 4 What book – fiction or non – touched you? Where were you when you read it? Have you bought and given away multiple copies?

—–> This is a tough one cause I ten to read for pleasure, not necessarily to be “touched”. I would say that Stephen Colbert’s book “I Am America” entertained me a lot!

December 5 Did you have a night out with friends or a loved one that rocked your world? Who was there? What was the highlight of the night?

—–> Well, my best days tend to be doing things that I think are fun, like going around looking in little shops and just hanging out with people. So, no, there wasn’t really an amazing night out, cause I’m not really the night out type.

December 6 Was there a conference or workshop you attended that was especially beneficial? Where was it? What did you learn?

—–> My company doesn’t pay for conferences to attend, so I don’t go, but I do always enjoy the PNwRC events that I attend. There is always very useful information. I did sit through a 3 hour presentation on bed bugs this year that was absolutely informative and disgusting all at once.

Yay for the first weekend of December!

I was invited to a lovely cookie decorating party this weekend and for the occasion I scrounged up a new cookie recipe. Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip and Pecan Cookies. These are definitely a repeat for me. I have ot say that I’d do a little less zest, a little less clove and a little more pecan. BUT, they were still lovely, I have eaten entirely too many. PLUS, I gut to use my awesome label maker on the tags. I love packaged food. I think it’s the Bee’s Knees.

I have a work party next week, so I’d like to find something cool. BUT, I might just give out an awesome label maker instead of finding something new in a thrift store. We’ll see though. I guess it really depends on what I find tomorrow πŸ™‚

Hoping to have more to share tomorrow…peace.
